Above the bridge - August 2022

14th August 2022

Barron Gorge, Early August 2022.

At the moment I really do not want to think too much about where to go for my bush walks so I am visiting places I have not for a while. One of those spots is Devil`s Pool in Barron Gorge. Just past the bridge on the way up the rocks are looking very clean and the colours normally hidden by silt are revealed.

You can see some little rain drops on the front rocks. I kept on going despite the threat of rain, which did not eventuate anyway.

Pacific Black Ducks.

Pacific Black Ducks breed in the Gorge and on this day I was joined for a little while by these four birds.

The water quite low further up the Gorge.

The water above the bridge is quite clear at the moment and the water level quite low. Love this little section just past the bridge when the water is like this.

Sunset below the bridge, late June 2022.

I was heading to Devils Pool just before sunset. Whilst you do not get the beautiful sunsets in the sky like you do below the bridge you do very often get a red cast over the rocks which highlights their colour.

Devils Pool that day at sunset.

That was certainly the case on this day. To highlight the difference that sunset colour makes in a photo I decided to make a coffee and wait for the start of the blue hour. I had two torches, I know my way out of the Gorge very well and the rocks were dry, so exiting in the dark would not be an issue.

Well into the blue hour the red tinge is gone.

Just 20 minutes later with the sun well and truly set and a bit of cloud cover added the colour of Devil’s Pool has totally transformed.

The pathway through the boulders and figs at the corner.

Time to finish my coffee and head back out. For those that know the way into this location the photo above of the passage you pass through at the corner on the way in or out will be familiar.

It is like entering a hidden bit of paradise once you pass through there on the way in. I remember so well the first time I caught that initial glimpse of Devil’s Pool and the waterfall. The place still puts a smile on my face.
