Bushland Beach = Imogen

May 2019.

When I think of Bushland Beach my first thought is walks with my granddaughter Imogen. For as long I can remember we almost at least once go for a walk together on the beach when I visit.

December 2021.

Imogen does not join me on my early morning walks there but I really enjoy that special time of the day on the beach.

A sunset, December 2021

Unlike many of the places I escape to early in the morning or late in the day I am rarely alone at Bushland Beach. At sunrise and sunset there is always someone walking a dog or fishing in the surf.

Looking at Rattlesnake Island, December 2021

As the sun rises and hits Rattlesnake Island more people arrive at the beach. This place is huge and it is one of those beaches where everyone can find their own bit of space or socialise if they want.

Eastern Curlew, December 2021.

Early morning and the birds are out feeding on the beach and in the surf. Many different species can be found at Bushland Beach but my favourite is the endangered Eastern Curlew. They use their long bills to probe the sand for crabs.

Lesser Egret, January 2021.

I photographed this Lesser Egret at about 11am. Not long after that the birds escape the midday heat for cooler spots like the mangroves.

Imogen however prefers the beach about midday when the tide is hopefully out and she can show Grandpa whatever she has found. Getting her to wear a hat and keep it on is hard to do. Applying sunscreen I have better luck with thankfully.

October 2021

Sunset is also a time when Imogen will join me at the beach. I really hope she still enjoys these walks as she gets older but I am a realist.

December 2021.

With the midday heat fading and sunset approaching the Eastern Curlew return to the beach to feed before the night. If you are into birds then Bushland Beach is a must.
