Cygnets, kangaroos and cattle :)
Late October 2022
A couple of Black Swans at Wurruma Swamp have 4 cygnets in tow. I was very fortunate to get these photos on a recent visit.
it was an extremely hot and humid day and the birds were taking shelter under some bushes on a small island out in the swamp.
It was not until late afternoon when the shimmering over the water stopped as the day cooled a little that I could get these photos. That heat in the air blurs images taken with a long lens. Fortunately I was the only one there that day and the Swans undisturbed stayed in place.
Earlier in the day as I waited for it to cool I decided to walk around the swamp edge to explore the bush. It was not long before I bumped into some other locals.
It was made very clear by this large Kangaroo that the edge of the swamp was a no go and that I was to walk around as his family fed. I did just that, I walked around.
As I made my way through the bush around the Kangaroos I was being watched by another local, a cow. The Swamp is also used for beef cattle grazing so please make sure you close the gate when you enter.
On a return visit a week later the Swans seemed more skittish than normal. From the rubbish around it appears there may have been a bush party held during the week. They never really came close to me.
Not wanting to bother them I did not try to get close. Dad however did do a fly by for me….now if only my skills were better and I had some good light.
As always the end to the day is always pretty at the Swamp. Cannot wait to go back.
