The rainforest floor and a local

Fruit, insects, spiders and fungi.
During September a lot of the trees in Barron Gorge dropped their fruit. The insects love to teat the fruit, the spiders love to eat the insects and the fungi takes everything in the end.
Deadfall up the hillside.
It is quite dry still but the rain has started and I am expecting a big wet season. That will mean an early and wonderful waterfall season so I need to get fit and start making the journey up the side of the Gorge more often in preparation.
Flowers on the floor.
The trees in the rainforest provided a splash of colour in places on tis trip up the hillside as they drop their flowers on the rainforest floor.
A very dry little waterfall.
Once the rain well and truly sets in this little trickle of water will transform into a lovely waterfall again.
The giant fig.
Earlier this year the Giant Fig at the top of the side of Barron Gorge that I visit often lost a large portion of its canopy during a storm. The debris at the base I felt would spoil any hope of getting a nice photo of this wonderful tree whilst I was alive. Other than the exercise I wanted to check on the tree and it looks like I may get a nice photo here yet :)
A splash of colour you do no want to walk into.
Spiders are a welcome splash of colour that you do not want to face plant into. As always when I make my way back down the hillside late afternoon it gets dark in the rainforest so I take my time….been there done that.
Driftwood in the river.
Once I was back at the base of the gorge I decided to sit by the river for a while before returning back to work. Nothing much was happening so I started to photograph the water pounding this driftwood in the river. I am easily amused.
Smoko.
As I often do at the riverside I made myself a late afternoon cup of coffee and was soon joined by a local.
Eastern Water Dragon?
I am pretty sure this is an Eastern Water Dragon but if I am wrong let me know. They are everywhere in Barron Gorge from the river right up to the waterfalls at the top.
Hunting by the waters edge.
They patiently wait by the side of the water until they spot an insect on the surface. Then they run across the top of the water to snatch it up. This one got so comfortable with me that he got to within 6 feet as he hunted for food.
A parting glance.
Time for me to head back to work. I exchanged parting glances with my dragon friend as I made my way back to the car.
