Last year was the first year that I noticed certain groups of trees bringing Spring colour to the normally all very green Barron Gorge. The colour did not last long and was in only certain areas but it was beautiful.

When I was on one of the last days of my 50+ photo project in mid September I noticed the setting sun hitting some colour in the trees up the Gorge a bit further. I made plans to go searching for that colour on my next visit.

On that next visit to the Gorge I was met with rain and low cloud. I love the gorge when it is wet but not so good for walking as the rocks get dangerously slippery. Those slippery rocks also rule out a lot of locations that I could go to in the dry.

The transition from rain to sunshine is a special time. It produces rainbows and reveals colours and textures. The trouble is you have to sit the rain out to be there for the change.

One of the places I wanted to go on this day was out onto the rock island above. With the tops of the rocks now covered with wet silt I cancelled the idea of trying to get out there.

I evaded the rain under the cover of a rock and tree enjoying a coffee and watching some small birds dart in and out of the tree.

I only got a few very short breaks in the rain that day but I think you can see how pretty a wet Barron Gorge can be in this photo, dangerous but pretty. The break was short lived and soon I was heading back to my cover under the rock.

Back under the rock and I soon noticed that I was not alone. In a web that joined the rock to the tree was this little yellow spider that I think was eating something.

At the next stoppage in the rain I decided to make my way out and took the above photo on my way. Even the grass on the rocks looks prettier when it is wet. I have been back in since on a drier day and will post that soon.
