Bushland Beach - Townsville - Christmas 2019

This year we were at Bushland Beach to celebrate Christmas Day with family. I got up a little after sunrise and as no one else was awake I headed down to the beach.

It was high tide and the sun was already extremely hot. With little shade I decided to go for a walk further down the beach behind the mangroves.

This might look quite boring and empty but it turned out to be full of wildlife. There were quite a few wallabies about but they scampered away before I could get close.

I could hear something rustling around in the bushes and unlike the wallabies that ran away from me this animal was coming towards me.

This Bush Turkey not only walked up to me but walked alongside me for a while like a pet dog. In the above photo you can see the heat in the air. It was going to be a really hot day.

Blue Winged Kookaburras

High up in the trees were quite a few Blue Winged Kookaburras. They were not singing this morning but were looking down on me as I walked underneath them.

I was able to walk very close to the Kookaburras as they seemed to be quite unthreatened by my presence. I walked right underneath this one, my only fear being that I might get a “Christmas present” from him.

Above are some photos of other birds that flew around me that day. Not sure what many of them are so if you know or I have the name incorrect please let me know.

Before heading back to the house for present openings with my Granddaughter I sat for a while under a coconut palm. I missed the sunrise and it was very hot but a beautiful Christmas morning none the less.

Just as I was about to leave a Pelican did a fly by.
