Getting it just right

31st March 2021 - Customer location: Cairns

In 2019 I made this engagement ring for an up coming proposal. It is what I call a proposal ring, a temporary ring that we intend to remake to the correct finger size and with any changes required/desired by the recipient. In the case of this proposal ring and most other rings all the changes are usually minor and were done at no cost to the customer.

If there were added expenses I would quote for those changes and the customer could always stay with the proposal ring as it is but remade to the correct size required.

The ring was a little small (no surprise the wrong size) so I resized the proposal ring until it fitted correctly. I do not care about the damage resizing does to the proposal ring because I know I am going to remake it. Some customers change their minds about the finger size a few times before finding the right size.

At the time of the proposal this customer like most was unsure of what she wanted for her wedding ring design. She chose to continue to wear the resized proposal ring until she had decided on the design.

In early 2021 the wedding was approaching and she decided on a classic plain wedding ring that she wanted to sit flush with her engagement ring. To accomodate this two changes needed to be made to the proposal ring design:

  1. The base of the setting needed to be altered

  2. The setting needed to be made slightly higher

The remaking of the proposal ring is a great opportunity to make sure that the desired wedding ring sits perfectly next to the engagement ring.

That is why so many of my customers put this off until they have decided on their the wedding ring design. I encourage them to do so where possible as this customer did for the best part of two years.

The finished rings

This couple now have their rings made exactly how they want them. Unfortunately with many of their relatives coming from WA for the wedding they have to deal with the latest round of travel restrictions effecting their wedding plans. When will this end :(

Tablelands Swamp, late March 2021.

The spot from My World that I want to share this week is the Swamplands up the Tablelands. Late 2020 they were dry as a bone. Early 2021 they were flooded and it was still raining. Now they are a sea of water lilies.

It will not be long and the Plumed and Wandering Whistling Ducks will be there in the thousands.

Make sure you wave to the friendly Swans up there as well. I think with the mask restrictions more than likely with us for a while I will escape to the bush this weekend. Have a great week and weekend.
