Brown-backed Honeyeater
Described as a a drab bird its voice is a sharp repeated “chit”. It makes a soft “mik-mik-mik” call in flight. Both sexes look alike.
They feed primarily on insects picked up from foliage, under bark or caught in mid air.
I am working on trying to get some in flight photos of these birds hunting but they are very quick.
For now I will have to be content with my photos of this bird returning to perch to eat their prey. Both photos are from Mt Molloy.
This honeyeater is found in swamps, riverside vegetation, mangroves and eucalypt vegetation that is near the previously mentioned habitats.
Breeding is from August until March and they lay 2-3 eggs. The nest is deep and cup shaped and suspended 2-4mm above water or the ground.
