Old spot, new path in.

Dead Falls, May 2022.

There is a little waterfall in Barron Gorge I refer to as Dead Falls. There is always a lot of fallen trees on the path to it and around the falls itself.

I love to make my way up there and sit and relax. It has a nice little open area that I can spread out and have lunch or a hot drink.

Dead Falls, February 2023.

Back in February 2023 the falls itself was covered in “deadfall”. Bit of a bummer but I knew in time those fallen trees would wash or rot away in the cycle of life in the rainforest.

Dead Falls, September 2023.

By September the same year, rain had indeed washed it all away and the falls were once again very pretty. I had not been there since September 2023 so I was keen to see how the falls had faired after cyclone Jasper.

Making my way up the hillside, February 2023.

Whenever I journey up the hillside I prefer to make my way through the rainforest rather than climb rocks. The reason being that if it rains rocks can get very slippery. It is always best to have a path in and out through the forest.

The place where my pathway used to be, May 2024.

This is the view in May 2024 from the top of the path that I usually take to Dead Falls. I had to make my way up on the rocks until I can find another way through the rainforest. No rain was forecast for the day so I was pretty comfortable about continuing on.

The rocks in many places had water flowing over them where it usually would not be. Very pretty but makes things quite slippery.

Dead Falls, May 2024.

Even when I could find some of my old paths up the hillside they were obstructed with rockslides and rainforest debris everywhere. The journey was slower than normal but I did get there and the falls were beautiful. Time to sit down and enjoy the view, sound, some hot noodles and a cup of tea.

A little waterfall I found on the way out, May 2024.

On my way back down the hillside I explored for a new path through the rainforest. Whilst doing that I stumbled across this pretty little spot. Nice end to the day in the rainforest.
