Green Chillagoe

Early January 2023

A very burnt and dry Chillagoe, November 2023.

In late 2023 when I last visited Chillagoe it was a very burnt and dry landscape. The area was continuing to experience bush fires and the smoke in the air made the above sunset photo possible.

On my most recent trip the country was extremely green from the rain that Cyclone Jasper left. Rain is still continuing to fall on and off.

My trip to Chillagoe this time would be for just one night. I had the singular plan to take the above photo in the morning and leave. Plans do not always work out but this one did. I was so very pleased with how Mother Nature cooperated on this occasion.

After this magnificent sunrise I had one final task to perform before leaving. One of the most recent mining projects in Chillagoe has recently failed just like the original that put the town on the map.

I am guessing some now unemployed miners spent a night at Castle Rock and left their work clothes behind in disgust at the failure. I tidied them up.
