Summer is here

22nd October 2023

Last Sunday morning I did some scouting for spots down near Babinda. I was finished well before lunch so headed into Behana Gorge on the way home. It was a blistering hot day and the carpark was full.

I headed deep into the National Park off the track to a small creek that I have visited often where I knew I would be all alone.

Now well into summer the water was beautiful so I swam for quite a while. I then sat in the sun to dry off and watched the crystal clear water shoot down the creek.

Vegetation that was lodged high up in the branches during the wet season is now dry and bleached by the sun. The water level is quite low along the Behana Creek area.

As has become the norm for me in the rainforest I am fascinated by the trees growing around rocks and or rocks lodge in trees and their root systems. This rock was lodged in the base of the large tree top right in the first photo.

With no clouds in the sky by mid afternoon it was blistering hot. I decided to take a break in a cave that I know nearby. All year round it is wonderfully cool inside there.

There are some rocks inside that I use as a table and plenty of room for me to stretch my legs out and take a nap.

As the sun started to drop I made my way back out into the creek to walk along it in the water. I have for many years enjoyed walking in the creeks there during the dry season and have come to know the area very well.

As the last bit of the sun was hitting the moss covered rocks I was almost back to the car. Terrible blue sky day for photos but a wonderful day for everything else.
