Seeing red
Lately we have had some red sunsets. With a lack of the right clouds the Gorge got hazed with red/orange on this day. When I am in Barron Gorge I usually know if I am going to get colour in the western sky by looking at what is happening in the east.
This photo is taken 10 minutes earlier in the day, on the day before, facing east at Ellis Beach. The colour usually always displays itself to the east before kicking off in the west.
I taught my friend Steve this. When he paddled Barron from east to west he would see any early colour coming and know when to look behind him for a sunset.
I do not need full on red for it to be beautiful but a bit of colour helps and knowing it is coming allows me to prepare. If I want really red sunsets then I head up the Tablelands :)
My favourite sunset is from the Tablelands on the first day we were allowed to travel outside our covid zone in May 2020.
To prove my point about the Tablelands and frequent red sunsets, I was up there this week for work and late afternoon headed out to Wurruma Swamp to sit with the Swans. Black Swan on a very red Wurruma Swamp above.
