I delete almost all this type of photo.
November 2022
I get asked two questions a lot about my time in Barron Gorge. The first is what are you photographing? The second is what do you do with all those photos?
In answer to the first question, my main subject matter in the Gorge is the seasonal waterfalls. When they are not flowing I explore in preparation for the waterfall season. On the way I see a lot of Water Dragons from the river to the top of the hillside….so I photograph them and all the other wildlife.
If there is nothing doing with waterfalls I try to photograph the rainforest and if that fails I go to the floor and concentrate on the fungi. I always keep any photos I like.
The answer to the second question is that the majority of the photos go here to my Blog and others I just keep for me.
Now we get the type of photos I delete almost all off, kayakers. When I first started spending time in Barron Gorge I was chasing sunsets, something I do less and less of now. While waiting for a sunset on the River the kayakers come down so I take photos of them.
I enjoy the challenge of capturing moments like that young lady closing her eyes in preparation of what comes in the second photo.
Likewise watching someone like Petr being so comfortable with the great force of the river fascinating to watch.
I am guessing Petr respects the river more than he fears it. I do not know ……perhaps I will ask him one day. He dives into the Rooster’s Tail with what appears delight to me.
When I watch the kayakers I hope what goes down comes up. Before I delete these photos I send them through to kayakers I know when I get the chance, then for all but a few they get deleted.
Not being limited to one subject makes the whole experience of being in the Gorge far more rewarding fror me, especially when you get not so good days for landscapes like the above photo. This photo will get deleted :)
