Lockdown and freedom
11th August 2021
During lockdown each afternoon we made our way to Cairns Golf Course for some exercise. Can you spot what my wife has seen here? Hint is that she is looking away from it.
Someone has missed the fairway and embedded their ball into some sort of insect pile on a branch. My wife has sharp eyes. I wonder how long they looked for their ball on the ground?
They have some beautiful plant life around the golf course and my wife loves strolling around the course when noone is on it….which really only happens during lockdowns.
At present there appears to be a fair bit of pinky red amongst the plant life. I have no idea what this is but it is striking.
During this shorter 3 day lockdown our walks were either overcast or it was raining lightly. It was not until the last day of the lockdown that the weather cleared up. To be honest I expected them to extend the lockdown, but we got out after 3 days.
Lockdown finished at 4pm on Wednesday and I jumped into the car and drove out to Barron Gorge. I rock hopped up past the bridge.
Past the bridge and the water is both lower and a lot clearer than last time I was in there. I only saw one person in there and he was leaving when I arrived. Having two torches and knowing the area very well I intended to stay until after dark.
Near sunset I headed up the side of the Gorge to one of my favourite waterfalls for a coffee break. I have photographed this waterfall many times now.
On the way out of the gorge in the dark I bumped into this little yellow frog. I have never seen them this colour before. If you know what it is please let me know.
When I arrived back at the power station they had more lights on than normal and the milky way was starting to show over the light pollution from the city. Great end to a day and a lockdown :)
