My favourite Swamp is calling me

I have a favourite swamp up the Tablelands that I have not visited since the very first days of April. When I was there last the surface of the Swamp was a sea of water lilies and the rain was still coming.

The Swans were nesting amongst those lilies and the ducks were arriving in large numbers. I am primarily there to take photos of the sunsets and sunrises but there is always something of interest to look at during the rest of the day.

On the water there is bird life galore. However in the trees that surround and stand in the swamp there are also many to be seen like this Pale-headed Rosella.

As is the case with all the swamps there are always dragonflies about which often end up the meal of birds like the White-bellied Cuckoo-shrike.

Most of the swamps are near or on farmland so the curious cow or horse is never far away to keep me company.

I even enjoy just walking amongst the ant hills that surround the swamp and wonder how long they take to form?

In the end however it is that rising or setting sun that I am chasing. The light that it can create on a special day is well worth the many not so beautiful ones.

I got some nice light that last visit but nothing spectacular. What I did discover however was a new spot to explore and take photos from and of.

In the next couple of weeks I am going to have to organise a camp in the swamps. I have also heard that the Brolgas are starting to arrive back from spending the wet season in Arnhem Land.
