How to get a sore knee

28th January 2021

Entrance to Devil’s Pool, Barron Gorge.

Almost every week I am in Barron Gorge rock hopping. I initially hurt my knee jumping down from a rock in there. Did not hurt but something felt wrong. The next day, a Tuesday, my knee was really sore.

4 days later on the weekend I was still sore but much better. My wife and I thought some gentle walking around Tinaroo would be a good bit of rehab.

The Chimneys, Danbulla National Park.

On the way into Tinaroo we stopped at the Chimneys to have a coffee at the picnic area. All good so far.

Trouble started when I saw a single pink flower under a tree and decided the best angle to photograph it was to get down on the ground with it. I am feeling so old just typing that :(

By the time we arrived at the Lake side my knee was getting a bit more painful. I did not do the climbing down on the ground or up on rocks as I usually do. However what we did discover there that day would be my big downfall a few days later.

There were butterflies everywhere and not only were they beautiful they were fun to try and photograph. I planned to come back as soon as my knee felt better.

BIF, Butterfly in flight.

Three days later that Tuesday was a holiday and my knee felt really good. I got up at 4am and headed to Tinaroo for sunrise and to photograph the butterflies. I got so wrapped up in getting low and trying to take photos of them in flight that before I knew it hours had gone by.

By the time I was ready to head home back down the range my knee was again pretty sore. Biggest mistake I made was wearing jeans that day and they pushed down on the cap of my now sore and swollen left knee as I changed gears all the way down Gillies Range.

Long story short……two days later and I am still sore. Might have to be a bit more careful with that knee for a while. I hate the part of getting older where your body breaks.
