Behind you dumby!

15th January 2021

Waiting for sunset in Barron Gorge 15th January 2021.

With a break in the rain the water has dropped in Barron Gorge allowing me to get back on the rocks for sunsets. I spend many evenings in Barron Gorge chasing a spectacular sunset and failing. This would be one of those days.

Beautiful but just not enough cloud for the afterburn in the sky.

I have been trying to get a photo at this spot for a while now. This day like many others was beautiful but not spectacular. The clouds did not provide the canvas for the sun to throw it’s colour onto. There was a little bit of pink in the sky but not much. To solve this I have put the emphasis of the photo on the water top.

What I wanted was to an extent behind me :( Some days the colour shows over the hills and others over the sea. The intense colour of an after-burn can last for only minutes and that was the case this day.

The view back down the river, the sky I wanted the other way.

With no time to find a pretty composition the best I could do was run up onto a rock and take this shot. You can see my black camera bag in the spot where I took the other two photos. Oh well…try again.

I enjoy going out and chasing special photos. I see that it is currently very popular to swap a sky out in editing if you do not like the one mother nature has given you at the time. I like to look at a photo and say ”I remember that day!” so fake skies are not for me …….but each to their own.
