More rain and Barron rages
13th January 2021
I have been away from Cairns for the end of my holidays. As part of my travels I found myself trapped in flash flooding near Atherton last Friday and again near Cardwell today. Much of that flood water near Atherton last Friday was filled with top soil from farm land, similar to the colours of what you see flowing down Barron Gorge at the moment.
According to the news today ,Cairns is going to get more of the rain that we drove through on the way back home today. Something to look forward to….and the mould that comes with it.
Usually the amount of water flow below the bridge in Barron Gorge is created by the what is released from the power station. At the moment however the water is flowing straight down the river past the station and creating this increase in flow naturally. One group of people happy with this current situation are the kayakers.
