Serendipity Falls - Palmerston Highway
updated June 2024
Serendipity are one of many waterfalls on the Palmerston Highway but few stop there. It is right on the side of the highway and if you blink you will miss it.
I have been visiting there for quite a few years now and on my most recent visit in June 2024 I was very pleased to see the absence of rubbish and the falls looked lovely.
As you head up the Palmerston Highway from Innisfail towards Millaa Millaa, not long after you cross the McHugh Bridge at Beatrice River you will see a small carpark on the left hand side of the road with the remains of a plaque.
The plaque has been missing as long as I have been visiting the falls but it will give you some idea of where the falls are. Just walk behind it.
February 2023 was a very rainy month and on my way to Nandroya Falls it was indeed raining and I dropped in to Serendipity Falls to capture this photo.
The falls were stunning and the piece of deadfall that had annoyed me in the past was now a feature. Sadly there was a lot of rubbish there yet again so I filled up a bag before leaving.
Speaking of that deadfall, here it is back in 2022 before Mother Nature turned it into the stunning scene it is in 2023.
When I visited in February 2021 with my wife we were blessed with some beautiful light. Below are some photos from back in October 2020 during the dry season on my first stop at these falls..
Well worth a stop and look but please take your rubbish. Unbelievable how many people will use a beautiful little spot like that as a trash can :( We have started to leave a garbage bag and gloves in the car and take away some of it as we visit spots.
