Barron Gorge - November 2019

Colour in the trees November 2019.

I visit Barron Gorge a lot and have written here before about this beautiful location barely outside of Cairns City. Since I wrote that post earlier in 2019 the year has gotten drier and the water level is falling. In November that loss of water has been balanced out with an increase in colour.

The present colour we are getting in the Gorge is about as close as we get to that full Autumn colour you see in other places.

November 2019 this rock in the middle of the river is usually under water.

At the end of 2018 the big wet started and that meant there was a lot of water flowing down the Gorge. Not so much at the moment.

The rock above is out in the middle of the river and is usually well and truly covered with water. The rocks surrounding it are usually so deep under water that they are not visible.

During the big wet at the end of 2018 start of 2019.

I often see the kayaker above on the river. Yesterday we shouted a conversation to each other from the rocks to the water as he passed by.. Both of us hoping to see a bit more water flowing down the gorge soon.

The fall in water level since the big wet marked on the rocks

You can clearly see in the photo above the marks on the rocks showing the recent drop in the water level. For the rafters and kayakers this becomes a bit of an issue. I am sure the rain is not too far away.

Three young men settling in to watch the stars.

In the meantime while the weather is still fine I will continue trying to catch one of those perfect sunsets at the end of the gorge.

Even if the sunset does not pan out I can always stay to watch the stars as these three young men are planning to do from the top of that rock.
