Usually it is not economical to hand make chain anymore. I only made this one because it was a friend.  At 65cm it allows him to not need a catch as it slides over his head.

The beauty of hand made chain is that each link soldered far more securely than machine made chain can achieve.  The down side is that unlike machine made chain you have to pay someone to solder each link.

The finer the chain the more links and therefore the more solders. Fortunately these links are quite large which reduces their number.

Hand made chain is no longer cost effective to most people....unless your friend is a jeweller and he owes you a favour or two ;)
