Pacific Black Duck
Their eyes are brown and they have a distinctive blackish stripe on the crown and from the bill to the back of the head.
The male and female look very similar and I dare to guess that this would be the most common duck in Australia.
The underparts of their wings are are white with a brown trailing edge and tips.
The top of the wings is dark brown with an iridescent purple to dark green speculum.
They fly quite swiftly and directly usually in pairs or flocks. You see them everywhere, open water, wet lands, urban parks, dams and lagoons.
They feed on seeds from aquatic or ditch grasses and also eat insects and crustaceans.
