These birds are endemic to Africa and were introduced to Australia. They are quite large at 21 to 23 inches and weigh about 1.3 kilos.
The birds have a short but explosive flight and rely on gliding for longer distances. They are more comfortable on foot and can travel up to 10 kilometres or more in a day.
