Sharp-tailed Sandpiper
I see these birds quite often at the swamps.
Some birds stay in Australia for winter but most fly to Siberia to breed during that period.
They make a shrilling noise when they call out and a “pleep” call in flight. This one is telling me to go away. Their flight is quite swift and can make them very hard to photograph.
They feed by probing in shallows for aquatic insects, worms and vegetation.
Their flight might be swift but I find their landings to be very entertaining a lot of the time.
