Laughing Kookaburra

We got to watch this beautiful bird close up for quite a while during one of our COVID lockdown Golf Course walks in 2020, or should I saw it watched us. The Laughing Kookaburra gets it’s name from the territorial laughing it makes.

Palm Cover New Years Day 2020.

My wife and I went to watch the first sunrise of 2020 at Palm Cove. After sunrise we sat on the beach for a while and were joined by the above bird.

They feed by perching and then pouncing down on their prey and this one came flying towards us to grab something from the sand nearby.

The beak of the Laughing Kookaburra is smaller than that of the Blue-winged. The head of the Blue-winged is also less white than the Laughing, more an off white with brownish streaks.

Their diet is usually insects, crustaceans, small mammals, reptiles and birds. This one was enjoying scraps left by humans.
