Happy New Year 2024

4:50am, 1st January 2024, Palm Cove jetty.

As has been the tradition for a few years now I spent the first sunrise of the year with my wife. For a change we intended to move a bit further north than the usual location of Palm Cove.

We were fortunate to go unscathed from the cyclone but many in the northern beaches and further up the coast were not. The road north past Palm Cove is closed due to damage and our plans to go to a spot north of Ellis Beach will have to wait for another year.

5:01am, 1st January 2024, Palm Cove jetty.

We arrived quite early this year and it was not until about 5am that we started to get a glimpse of the rising sun in the clouds.

Palm Cove, 1st January 2024.

The clouds did not play nice for us this year so it was not until a bit after sunrise that I got a photo worth sharing. It was nice to be out anyway.

With sunrise done and dusted my wife and I started exploring the beach. Other people were starting to make their way way out onto the sand and the jetty.

Bringing in the New Year kayaking and fishing.

Every year we see kayakers making their way out to Double Island on the first morning of the year. It was now time for us to go and have breakfast somewhere. On the way out we had a little chat to a Sulphur-crested Cockatoo sitting in front of our car. All the best for 2024!
