Dead Falls - Barron Gorge

Updated late May 2024

April 2022.

This tiny little waterfall is right up the top of the side of Barron Gorge. What it fails to provide in size it makes up for in remoteness and colour in the rocks.

May 2022.

The water really only flows here in the wet/waterfall season and it is one of my favourite places to take a break during a day on the side of the Gorge.

The path up to the falls February 2023.

During the dry season I make my way up to this spot using the rocks shown above. However once the rain comes that path turns into a mini waterfall itself. That is why I wear gumboots during the waterfall season.

Some rocks on the path in February 2023.

During the dry season you tend to not notice the colours in the rocks but once they are wet they really pop to the eye. Amazing to think how this was all formed.

July 2022.

These falls are surround by very large deadfall hence the name. I took the above photo during the dry in 2022 on my way up to the falls, which were pretty much dry at the time.

In early 2023 the falls had become a victim of their own surroundings. A large tree has fallen into the area bringing down a lot of other foliage with it.

Early September 2023.

By early September 2023 mucc of that deadfall had washed away and the falls were once again looking very pretty.

Late May 2024.

By May 2024 following cyclone Jasper all that deadfall has been washed away and the waterfall had a heavy flow of water over it filling up the rock pool below. It also made the water flowing out of that rock pool down the hillside something to include in a photograph.

During the wet season there are quite few little waterfalls below the main one that highlight those stunning red rocks in the area.
