A sunset rainbow
January 22nd 2023
Sunday morning I had a meeting with some customers from Innisfail. After the meeting I intended to head bush. When I arrived home my wife needed some help with some things so I did not get on the road until after 1pm. Despite the late start I decided to head to Ravenshoe and walk into Coolabbi Creek which is a favourite spot of mine. Last year in January it was stunning there.
Like everywhere else at the moment in Far North Queensland the water is a bit muddy and the flow quite strong. Still a great place to spend the afternoon.
On the way into the Creek I spotted a type of bird I have never seen there before. The Brown Cuckoo-dove is usually in groups of about 10 or so as they were on this day. They appeared quite skittish but one was very comfortable around me and fed very close by in a tree.
I like exploring in the bush at Ravenshoe and I often find old logging campsites or other signs of a time gone by. This appears to be an abandoned water pump on the creek that is now occasionally used by campers to shelter under and get a fire going based on the ashes present.
Before heading home I made some noodles and a cup of Milo at the main falls on the creek. We have had good rain for the last couple of years and the falls are quite weedy. In the past during drier periods I have got much prettier photos.
On the way home I visited a friend at his farm on East Barron Road. It was right about sunset and there was this amazing rainbow in the clouds that I just had to take a photo of. Short day out but well worth the trip.
