A creek near Speewah
November 2021
Back in November 2021 I was up at Speewah near Kuranda exploring the top end of the Douglas Track. After a quick inspection of where it ends at the top of the range I decided to check out some of the local creeks.
The one above I am not sure if it is Stoney creek or another but it seemed to be regularly visited by humans.
To get there I drove down a dirt road as far as the Swift would take me until I ran into flowing water across the road. I parked the car and explored.
It appeared to be a popular swimming area and my natural instinct is to walk away from popular areas and explore. I did just that and got about 1 klm down stream when I ran into a candle stuck to the side of a tree.
I soon discovered a camp site where it appears quite a few people escape the modern world, enjoy nature…..drink coke and leave their rubbish.
I carry a garbage bag with me for such occasions and took out some of the rubbish. As I get older I just accept that a lot of people that claim to love the bush are grubs.
There is a great Youtube channel all about wild camping where the creator reminds people to “leave no trace” as they explore our wonderful country. Great content if you are looking for some incentive to get out and explore.
