MacKenzie Falls, it has been too long since my last visit.

December 2022

My car will not make the journey into MacKenzie falls but I actually prefer walking in. I park my car outside Mrs MacKenzie’s house and sometimes get treated to a greeting from her and her dog Ivy. This time I was greeted by two small white dogs.

Update 11/12/2022: I emailed Mrs MacKenzie on my return to make sure she was well. She replied that she was fine but had moved out of her beloved house in July that was getting too big for her to manage and now lives in Atherton with her dog Ivy.

During my walk on this day I had a group of Australian King Parrots look down upon me. I had what I think is a female Red-backed Fairy-wren buzz around. Finally for the birds there were Scarlet Honeyeaters hiding in the trees. I will get better photos of them one day.

I would never get to see any of these birds if I was driving in so for as long as I still can I will continue to walk in.

It was lightly raining when I started my walk in with more rain looking like it was on the way. That excites me as the landscape looks so much more vibrant wet. That moisture also allows mushrooms to grow in the weirdest places. This one way up in a tree.

The final part of the track to the falls.

By the time I made it to the falls the rain had stopped. As it would turn out that would not last for long. The trees that lined the path down to the falls had shed their bark and with a bit of moister added some colour to the landscape.

I loved the colours in this tree.

If I had more time I would have loved to photograph this tree more extensively. Sadly the rain got quite heavy and I needed to move along.

I only took one photo of the waterfall on this trip. Thunder started so I decided to make my way out. It has been about 10 months since I have been to MacKenzie Falls. I must make sure the next visit is sooner than that.
