Being alone

My favourite swimming hole along Coolabbi Creek

Early January I had another birthday. It was an extremely hot and humid day and I wanted to head into the bush for a swim at a favourite swimming hole along Coolabbi Creek near Ravenshoe to mark the day.

As it was extremely hot my wife was happy for me to go without her. Being alone in the bush is something I do often and enjoy greatly.

The most well known section of Coolabbi Creek

This waterfall along Coolabbi is near a dirt road that crosses the creek and I am guessing is the best known spot. I go there often but you cannot really swim there.

If you are prepared to walk where there are no tracks you can find some hidden gems along Coolabbi. With my wife absent I did exactly that, explored off the tracks.

There are fallen trees littering the bush along Coolabbi everywhere. It does make you wonder if one will fall down on you at any given time.

The moss growing on top of those fallen trees almost appears like carpet covered with fallen foliage

Whilst it is not the prettiest spot I did discover somewhere new on my bush adventure.

It was however a great place to spend the day and even better place to swim. I also really enjoyed hopping in the water to take photos and staying cool.

In the trees around that swimming hole were Pale-headed Rosella. My wife loves these birds so I took some photos to show her.

On my way home from the new location I decided to go and have a look at the section of small waterfalls below my favourite swimming hole that I showed you at the start of this post. These places always look different depending on the water flow.

The end to the day as I drove home was a typical glorious Tablelands sunset.
