Ellis Beach, been a while

26th August 2021

When I arrived at one of my favourite beaches it was late afternoon and the sun was getting ready to set. Those clouds looked promising.

I stopped going there about a year ago once some people moved in to live. The council have since clamped down on long term camping there. I am pretty sure that camping has never been allowed there.

There was an Eastern Reef Egret wading in the white water. The bird did not seemed too bothered with my presence so I made a cup of coffee and sat down and watched it for a while.

It was not long before it plunged its head into the water spearing its prey and then took to flight.

After finishing my coffee I made my way further up the beach watched the surf pound the rocks as the crabs held on for dear life.

The crabs that were not keen to brave the surf were ducking in and out of the rocks. They seemed much more worried by me than the Egret was.

Occasionally one would come out onto the rocks but as soon as it spotted me it would duck buck under cover.

Sunset and beyond that day never got spectacular. The clouds lost their nice structure and the colour never arrived but it was still a beautiful end to the day as the tide made its way in to cover the rocks as I walked back to the car.
