You never know if you never go.
It has ben a really long week at work and I am still working Saturday tonight after a couple of hours break in Barron Gorge.
I often say to my wife when we see something that sparks our interest that we should just go and have a look, you never know if you never go! Today I practised what I preach and visited a new waterfall in Barron Gorge. I climbed about 10 tiers but there are many more. One of those tiers is shown above.
A late afternoon trip to the Gorge yesterday sparked me to do something different. Most of the rocks I usually climb over in the Gorge are under water and the river is so brown. Work at the moment being busy means that I cannot go far for my bush breaks so Barron Gorge is the place.
When the waterfall along Barron Gorge Road is flowing strongly it means that many of the seasonal waterfalls up the side of the Gorge are flowing. if the rocks were dry the next day I decided to explore up the side of the Gorge. The waterfalls on the side of the Gorge also have clear water!
If it is dry enough you can safely go a long way up the side of the Gorge and I have done this many times deep in the Gorge. Some of the vegetation and rock formations are very interesting. It can be very different up there.
if you read this and you decide to go and explore make sure you are prepared. Proper clothing and footwear as well as a head and hand torch at least. Insect repellent is also advised.
I try to not go into the Gorge on rainy days but sometime I go into the gorge and the rocks are dry but it rains before I come out. The rocks get very slippery when they are wet and going down a hill face is harder than going up. You cannot see as well where you are putting your feet when you are climbing down backwards.
This climb was quite easy for the first 3 or 4 tiers of the waterfall. For most of the year there is no water flowing in this waterfall so you could climb straight up it in the drier months. Not very pretty without the water :)
Above is the last photo I took before heading back down. Until I know my way in and out of a location very well I always try to get out before dark. I am very keen to explore there again as I guess I was less than half way up the waterfall.
Speaking of rain and the dark, by the time I got back to the car to have a coffee the rain clouds were settling back in. On the drive back to work it started to rain again.
Another late night tonight at work but I will take Anzac Day off. Probably go up the Tablelands with my wife and spend some time with the Wandering and Plumed Whistling Ducks that are back in the Swamps breeding.
