Things I see while I wait

Barron Gorge

Often when I go to take a photo at a location I encounter a local inhabitant as I wait for mother nature to put on some beautiful lighting for me. The above photo was taken in Barron Gorge.

Dragon fly in the Gorge.

While a I was waiting for the sun to set I was joined by some dragon flies. Usually I see a blue dragonfly but on that day these were a tiger like colour pattern.

The road to Gillies range crossing over Little Barron River

The above photo was taken in Little Barron River just down from the Mountain View Hotel. I am yet to be there on a day that does the spot justice.

Spider on the bank of the Barron.

As I made my way to a favourite spot on the river bank I noticed that there were a lot of these very large spiders. I had to be careful not to walk in to them and their webs. This one had just caught a meal.

Late afternoon at Ellis Beach.

i go to Ellis Beach quite often to watch the sunset. Sometimes as I wait I am joined by some birdlife.

1st bird of prey i have seen at Ellis Beach.

I have never seen a bird of prey on my many visits there and I was very excited to spot this one in early 2020. I believe it is an Eastern Osprey.

The bird flies out towards Wangal Djungay (Double Island).

As soon as I got just a little too close the bird took to the skies. Hoping to see another one of these at Ellis Beach one day. The Eastern Osprey is classified as uncommon….so it might be a while before I see another one.

Heading into the blue hour at Ellis beack

This was the after burn on that same day at Ellis Beach. Photo is taken looking up towards Port Douglas.

I do however often see this black bird. I believe it is a Pacific Reef Egret but please let me know if I am wrong.

A fall on Millstream.

The above waterfall is in the Millstream area outside Ravenshoe. it is quite hard to find on purpose due to the fact that swimming there is very dangerous. After heavy rain the water at this swimming hole can create a whirlpool affect and drag swimmers down. In early 2020 a man drowned there on a day I was photographing a different falls a couple of kilometres away.

While I was exploring the area I noticed this little fella. Not sure if it is fully grown as it was less than half the size of a small wallaby. From a quick search of the internet I think it might be a Mareeba Rock Wallaby. If you know what it is please let me know. So very cute.
