Coolabbi Creek - Ravenshoe

updated March 2022

January 2022.

I have been visiting this area for about 4 years now so I thought I had better update the page. I originally stumbled into this spot searching for MacKenzie Falls.

The top pool that feeds the falls. February 2020.

The most well known section of the creek is by the side of a dirt road that passes through it. Just to the side of the road the water pools above a small spectacular waterfall.

Looking down the top pool into the falls. February 2020.

From that top pool it drops into a small gorge. The drop is about 20 feet or so.

From further down the creek looking back into the little gorge, if the water flow is right, the view is stunning. The stepped nature of the rocks not only provide a way to walk around the side of the falls, in some sections water flows over them.

An old logging campsite, February 2022.

If you are prepared to explore where there are no tracks away from that spot you can visit places that were once used by loggers as trees were harvested from the area along the creek.

You will also stumble across some stunning sections of the creek that few humans visit. Well worth the effort.

Not only will the bush be stunning you will be joined by beautiful birds such as the Australian King Parrot and Pale-headed Rosella.

If you want to cool off with a swim then most of the year the water is flowing slow enough to swim at most sections of the creek. I spent my birthday this year at this swimming hole.

The two photos above are different views (one wider than the other) but they are from the same section of the creek. The photo on the left from November 2019 shows a trickle down the creek compared to the much heavier flow of February 2022. This place is never the same when I visit.

If you are up for a bit off the track exploring and battling through some heavy Lantana and bumping into the odd local reptile or two then Coolabbi Creek is a wonderful spot.
