Portsmith
As you drive into Cairns, once you get close to the city you can either take the shorter Portsmith bypass or go the long way round through Westcourt. The Portsmith road runs parallel to the main railway line into the city.
Portsmith is an industrial area where a lot of marine related companies operate from. There are also some Naval vessels based there. Portsmith is also home to the Portsmith Club, a great place for coffee, food and live entertainment.
Update May 2020: Sadly the Portsmith Club was a victim of Covid 19 economic shutdown and is a great loss to the Cairns live music scene. Very sad :( I wish Jacquie and Frank all the best in whatever they do next.
