Sometimes customers desire diamonds in their ring that are deeper than metal that they are to be set into. This article describes the issue.

Before I made this ring for a South Australian customer I had to make sure that she was comfortable with a ring thick enough to hammer set the diamonds into.

A ring like this is not resizable so she took a while (as she should) to confirm her finger size but the thickness was no problem.
