The sapphire in this ring has been passed down through several generations. When it was brought to me to remodelled in to a new design I pointed out to the customer of existing chips and scratches on the gem.
Nothing breaks my heart more than have to tell a customer that they have worn the family heirloom to death. Sapphires might be a vey tough gem but they can still be damaged during wear. If this customer wants the sapphire to survive another generation then it needs to get more care than it did up until now.
