Comments:
This gem has been owned by my customers for many years now and was purchased at a charity auction in Africa.
I once heard a gem merchant refer to roughly cut gems as “jungle cut” which has stuck in my memory. Not politically correct today I am guessing.
Most of the gems cut today are very uniform but when gem is cut in a rough manner or one that works around flaws, we can end up with a very irregular cut like this gem. That is certainly the case with his gemstone as you can see in the third photo.
The irregularity of the cut, the extra depth and lopsided shape in the pavilion, caused a lot of issues in the making of what appears like a simple ring. I will write an article about it in the future.
