Something for a longtime customer and a new one

12th September 2024 - Customer locations: Bli Bli & Cairns

Previous ring I made that was to be the design for the proposal ring.

I thought today I would share two jobs. One is for a new customer and the other for a longtime customer. We will start with the new customer first.

He is proposing on an upcoming trip overseas and for the last month we have been working together on his proposal ring. He originally intended to use the above design but changed his mind.

Article: The proposal ring

The design he created with me.

In the end he decided to modify with me a design that he had seen. Together we tweaked that design until it was exactly how he wanted it for the proposal. The diamond is a 1.25ct, F colour, Vs1 clarity, GIA certiified round brilliant cut. The ring was made in 18ct yellow gold.

The side view of his design. Set quite low on the finger.

After the proposal when they are ready, plans will be made for the wedding ring and at the same time we will explore changes if any to the proposal ring. Once those decisions have been made the proposal ring will be remade into her engagement ring to her exact finger size ready to match her desired wedding ring.

The longtime customer - Wendy :)

An old ring that is sentimental to Wendy.

Wendy has been a customer of mine for about 9 years now. She had the ring above that her husband gave her many years ago that is worn out but very sentimental to her. She wanted to see if she could use two of the diamonds from the ring to make some earrings. Please excuse these photos for this job, I have taken them all on the run with my phone.

Then plan was to make them into a simple stud that built out the size of the diamonds a little. So she had a good understanding of how the earrings would look on, I edited the design into a photo of her ear and we tweaked it until she was happy. I asked her to leave an existing earring in so she could an even better idea of scale.

With the design confirmed the next task was to remove the diamonds from the ring.

Removing the diamonds from the ring.

The safest way to get the diamonds out was to cut the setting. As the ring was end of life anyway, damaging it further was not an issue. Once they were out we discovered that under all that metal was a bit more diamond than we expected. Bigger diamonds is usually a good thing!

Not that valuable but priceless to Wendy.

The earrings are simple and were relatively inexpensive to make. The diamonds from her old ring were not of great quality but none of that matters. Her husband gave them to her and she loves the fact that she can now continue to wear part of that ring everyday.

I am not posting to the website as often anymore. When I do I will try to share a greater variety of the type of work I have been doing rather than just the more eye catching pieces. Have a great weekend.
