I try to avoid jobs like this :)

You may be looking at the above ring and asking “what the hell is it?”. I do not make wedding/eternity rings to match rings made by other jewellers much anymore. I prefer to plan for the wedding/eternity rings when the engagement ring is made to avoid it becoming very difficult or impossible to achieve the customers desired look.
Article: The proposal ring and getting the wedding ring perfect
The job I am going to share with you is a perfect example of how difficult it can get when you want a new ring to sit next to a ring/rings that were never meant to have anything sit next to them.
Once again to be clear, I did not make the engagement ring above and my guess is that it was never designed to have another ring worn with it. I do like the design, probably would have made a few small changes as it does have issues with the main gem coming loose.
The customer did have a wedding ring made for it elsewhere, I think by the original jeweller, that clips under the engagement ring as shown in the second photo.
My challenge was to come up with a design for an eternity ring. I must say during the design process I had moments when I thought we were on mission impossible. Then the customer made a suggestion that I was able to make work for her. Above is some design work done in photoshop to explore her idea.
It would involve modifying the wedding ring but it would be possible to make it. The customer wanted diamonds in her eternity ring. Once we had the shape confirmed we then had to calculate the size of diamonds needed to fill the ring.
And so this is what the eternity ring looks like sitting into the engagement ring. The diamond set eternity ring is made quite thick but being an open ring with a lot of metal cut out to set the diamonds, that compromises its strength to a degree. It will not retain its shape if worn without the support/protection of the other two rings. Below are the three rings together.
The customer loves the set and has promised never to wear the eternity ring on its own. This is one of those designs that I cannot guarantee, but the customer still wanted to make it.
We really pushed the limits on this one and the engagement ring already had issues with the main diamond coming loose at times. A lot of fun mainly due to how nice Bob and Marge from Mexico were to work with (if you know, you know :)
