Back to work

23rd January 2024 - Customer location: Cairns

6 diamonds that belonged to his late Mother.

After some on and off holidays due to being rained out in the bush I am properly back at work for 2024 as of tomorrow. Today I am at the office organising and preparing for meetings so thought I would also do a post for the website.

The owner of the diamonds above is the same customer that I made an engagement ring for during the rain induced break in my holidays. At the same time if possible he wanted me to make some earrings for his bride to be using diamonds that belonged to his late Mother.

The finished earrings in 18ct yellow gold.

The 6 diamonds we had to use were very close to the same size but slightly off. For a sentimental job this was not an issue as was the fact that the cuts of the diamonds did not match. For diamonds I would order in for earrings like this both the cut and size would be matched more closely.

Speaking of looking closely, I have left the details out of focus on purpose, but there is some personalised engraving relevant to the late Mother on the butterflies that you can faintly see in the background to the right. This makes the earrings that much more special to both the giver and the recipient.

Hand made butterflies…..so much more secure.

Being heirloom diamonds and not replaceable the earrings needed to be securely fitted to the ears. Most of the modern butterflies are machine made so light that they become weak and can easily come off.

The butterflies I hand make are much more secure and produce a distinct click as they slide on. They are also readily adjustable if at some stage the click starts to fade.

I hand make butterflies to go with pretty much all the earrings I make. Even the above Akoya pearl earrings set into 18ct yellow gold that are on special.

Have a great week and all the best for the working year.
