Draw, design, draft and deliver.

8th June 2021 - Customer location: Babinda

My customer had a sketch of what he had in mind. As far as customer sketches go I think this was really good! From it I thought I had a very good idea of what he wanted.

Back when I first started as an apprentice over 30 years ago we used to sketch and measure all our designs. I do sketch a little now but it is usually done in conjunction with Photoshop editing and then into a computer design program which we will do next.

Design

As it turned out my translation of his sketch to a design shown above was exactly what he was after.

Next step was to digitally edit that mockup into a photo of his hand to scale to make sure it was the look he desired.

Draft

To confirm that the design was exactly what he wanted I next created a draft of the ring for him to try on.

I only did the pattern half way around to save time and to also give me a plain section to use for resizing the draft until the size was perfect. Resizing the actual ring after making would be a very difficult task.

Deliver

Once the ring was created the finishing touch was to give it an aged look by intentionally tarnishing it.

From My World this week Barron Gorge again. A special thanks to the River Rats (kayakers) that helped me rope a freezer, BBQ base and some car tyres out of the Gorge. Usually we take away the rubbish but this was too big so thanks to Cairns City Council for coming and collecting it for us. They have also agreed to help us again with some more larger objects that we will be taking out soon.

Usually the rubbish is small and on the side of the Gorge thrown down from the road. However in the other photos the street sign was in the river as was the drum and mannequin. Amazing what and where people will break and dump stuff.
