27th February 2021 - Customer location: Cairns

This piece was initially design and quoted on remotely at the end of 2020. When I was first contacted by the customer they were living in Babinda if I recall correctly. In the New Year she took up a new position in Cairns.

The ring was a full remodel of the two rings above. I asked her to send me these photos as we worked on finding a design that matched both her hand size and the size of her existing diamonds. Once I knew the direction she wanted to go and a pretty good outline of the materials needed I could quote.

Article: Those damn hand models

The ruler in the photos is so that I could get an idea of everything without having to physically see the rings. Without that ruler I have very little idea of the size of those gems.

In the case of this ring we only used one of the small diamonds from the second ring. We needed variation in the small diamond sizes to achieve the designs she desired. She did not have that in her old rings so I supplied new diamonds and she can save the remaining for another piece later.

Initially when I quote to make a ring I concentrate on the top view and discuss in general the side view. This is usually enough for me to be able to give an accurate quote on the cost to make a ring.

Once the piece is commissioned I then go through the rest of the design with the customer. This is the only way I can effectively quote on pieces given the number of quotes I get asked to give. By the way, speaking of which, this customer was very patient as it took quite sometime for me to get the quote for this ring finalised.

McKenzie Falls, September 2020.

I am working this weekend because I took two days off during the week to roam the Tablelands with a friend before the weekend crowds arrive. We wandered into McKenzie falls near Ravenshoe during our travels. The falls has 4 tiers and the above photo is of the third tier from the top.

Like almost all the falls in FNQ they are roaring at the moment and whilst they are wonderful to be around I find the slower pace of the drier times in the year much prettier to take photos of.

Have a great weekend especially if you live in the same wonderful place I do.
