The journey to her ring

8th November 2021 - Customer location: Cairns

A young couple a week ago contacted me for a quote on an engagement ring. She liked the traditional solitaire ring above that she had seen on my website…….. but with a few changes. Here were the first changes:

  1. Yellow gold band, not rose gold

  2. Moissanite, not diamond

  3. Perhaps a different design to the one above :)

She liked the side profile of the solitaire above but of course in two tone with a white gold setting and yellow gold band. LOL the only things now the same to the original design were that the setting was six claw and white gold :)

Most of the people that come to me wanting Moissanite have done some research and are certain that is what they want. This customer had never seen Moissanite in real life so I needed to order in a stone for her to view.

Like almost everything I make I custom order in materials to achieve the exact look that the customer desires. With the ability to allow her to try on some 5.5, 6 and 6.5mm round gem solitaires she was sure that she wanted 5.5mm for her hand size.

The finished ring is shown above. 18ct yellow and white gold with a 5.5mm round brilliant cut colourless grade Charles and Colvard “Forever One” Moissanite.

Shinyu - Best friend

I added another kanji pendant to the website this week. This pendant features the Japanese word “Shinyu” which means “best friend.” The one in the store has a 9ct yellow gold frame and Palladium Sterling Silver kanji.

The price in the store does not include a chain but I do have a couple of nice 9ct yellow gold chains in the Specials section of the website.

My World

This week from My World I am going to share a sunset but also plug a business that provided me with outstanding service. I take my little Suzuki Swift to places it was never meant to go as I roam around for work and pleasure. So far I have done 250,000 klms in the Swift.

Recently I damaged one of alloy wheels and I was unable to find a replacement. Faced with the expense of having to buy 4 new rims to have them match I looked into having it repaired.

No one in Cairns would even reply to enquiries on the repair but Jordan from Magmedic in Townsville got back to me straight away telling me that based on the photo it should repair. However he assured me that if the rim was not safe to repair they would let me know.

Magmedic repaired the rim the same day for me on a business trip to Townsville. They did an excellent job that the tyre fitting company approved off despite the successful repair meaning that they would miss out on selling me 4 new matching mag wheels.

I love to promote people that know their stuff and do quality work. Very refreshing to see this in a world that repairs very little and throws away so much.

Last Saturday I worked until 2pm then headed out to Mt Molloy to spend some time at Abattoir Swamp and a few other spots. On the way home I stopped at the Mareeba Wetlands to watch the sun set. This light lasted less than 5 minutes but it was stunning. I took 10 vertical photos and stitched them together into this panorama.
