Symbolism - making it personal

21st October 2021
Customer Locations: Christie’s Downs, SA & Bli Bli, Qld

A Japanese kanji combination for the name Kumiko.

Both of the pieces I am going to share today are for out of Cairns repeat customers. That means that they are already familiar with the system I use to create pieces which for the first time most find very different. Things certainly go faster once a customer has experienced how I design and create prices for customers from afar.

If you are Japanese then you know the meaning of the kanji pendant shown above. The kanji is the recipients name which is made up of three Japanese characters read from top to bottom:

Ku - eternal
Mi - beautiful
Ko - child

The customer originally sent me a generic computer font to use. My wife Yumi ( same “Mi” kanji in her name) provided a much nicer handwritten form of the characters.

The next piece is for one of my favourite customers who has been with me for a long time now. She had a clear vision of a two tone gold earring design. Her husband commissioned me to make these for her 60th birthday.

My job in this case was to continually tweak the design based on feedback of images I emailed the customer. She has a love of the ocean so the theme of the earrings is a wave hitting the sand. My only contribution to the design was the idea of creating custom butterflies.

Before my break from work in August and the move of the office in September I started to add some ready made engagement rings back on the website. Things got put on hold during the break and move but I am starting to get back to normal. This ring was added today and you can view details here:

Article: Half carat rose gold band Solitaire

It features a half carat centre diamond in a classic solitaire set in an 18ct rose gold band and palladium white gold collet.

I have also this week added some more items to the Specials section. This chain is one of them, a 9ct yellow gold belcher for sale at $57 per gram. There are also links on the page to information about why you should buy chain based on a price per gram.

Shop item: 9ct yellow gold Round Belcher chain

I will add more items to the Specials section leading up to Christmas in the hope that some of my regulars might find them useful for last minute presents. I have plans to build up the Specials section. I have so much stuff just sitting around. Time to move some of it on so that it can be enjoyed.

From My World this week a couple of the locals my wife and I bumped into on a trip to Peterson’s Creek in Yungaburra last Sunday. Have a great weekend :)
