Black neoprene Friday
27th November 2020 - Customer locations: Cairns and Brisbane
When I get asked to create something that I have never made before I take it on expecting some trial and error, which is a nice way of saying failures before success. I usually only take on this sort of job on with an existing customer who knows how I work.
For the past month I have been working with a longtime customer on this neoprene bracelet which was part of an earring and pendant set given to her for a recent birthday.
The neoprene bracelet has a white gold slider catch that pinches the neoprene enough to keep it in a shorter position on the wrist. The neoprene can be pulled open to allow the bracelet to be removed.
The same principle is applied to the 14mm South Sea pearl to keep it in place. The reason I needed the pearl to be able to moved was so that I could easily replace the neoprene when the time came. For decoration and to stop the neoprene from pulling all the way through the catch, white gold bullet shape ends are attached.
Finding nice clean, white and round South Sea Pearls is hard to do but when you desire them to be under 10mm in size they become even harder to find. Initially this next customer wanted 8mm but the closest we could get in high quality was 8.6mm.
These pearl drops have been created so that they can be removed from the clip hoops. This is to allow other drops to be worn on the same clip hoops or for the hoops to be worn on their own.
This customer also desired the clip hoops to be smaller and narrower than my usual version….so now I have lighter version if other customers also desire them.
Continuing the theme of black this Friday, a photo of some Black Swans earlier this month in the Tablelands swamp, which is where I am probably going to end up again this weekend.
Thank you to all those that have booked pieces in for the end of 2020. To make sure I get all the pieces already paid for completed on time and also get some time off for Christmas, I am not holding any more meetings with customers for new work until mid January.
Next week I will make sure I write that article about wear and wearing out jewellery I promised for this week. In the last week I have seen some pieces for servicing owned by customers that have listened to my advice over the years. The difference in the condition of those pieces compared to those that never take their jewellery off is incredible.
Have a great weekend.
