Not exactly what I first quoted on.

23rd June 2017

Starting point

Sometimes after we have done the initial design small changes are made and other times major ones.

The initial plan of the customer was to set a 6mm round sapphire into a trilogy trellis design, something like a mix of these.

Some trellis styles she liked parts of.

Eliminating variables

I knew the following variables that allowed me to start laying out the design:

  1. main gem size
  2. finger size
  3. general design

With those factors known I created the following graphic to see what size side diamonds the customer had in mind. This is the size she chose and I was now able to accurately quote.

A rough layout to confirm the size of the side diamonds she desired.

A total change of direction

The quote was  accepted and a 30% deposit paid so we could now start refining the design via email until it was perfect.

However my customer was now starting to understand that anything was possible and asked me to look at using the sapphire in a design like this one she had seen.

The new design direction

I asked her a few questions about aspects of the design and based on her comments created this digital mockup.

Design mockup the second time around :)

The customer liked this design more than the previous but she was not finished yet. She wanted to look at adding a larger diamond to either side of the sapphire.  I sent her a few options of sizes and this is what she chose.

Changes made and ready to quote again.

Time to re-quote

With the design now confirmed I had to re-quote on making the ring. This quote was also accepted so the next step was to make the silver draft.

Once the draft was created I visited my customer on a trip to the Tablelands and was able to sit the sapphire inside the ring and allow her to try it on before we made it. She loved it.

The silver draft set with cubic zirconia.

Time to make the ring

The ring was created in 18ct Palladium white gold with a total diamond weight of .35 carats. She has taken a design she liked and refined it until it was her own around a sapphire she personally selected.
