Snowflakes from the Tropics
March 16th 2011
Snow is one thing that I do not get to enjoy here in tropical North Queensland but that did not stop me from designing and making some snow flake earrings for a customer in Japan.
When I lived in Japan it was my first experience in a long time of the four seasons. In the tropics here we just don`t get the distinct changes in weather that the seasons bring to other parts of the world.
One of my Japanese customers has a love of snow and asked me to make some snowflake earrings to remind her of the snow as Japan heads into their hotter period of the year.
After a quick education on the types of snow flakes and their characteristics I came up with a design that my customer liked and set to making the earrings.
The earrings were made in 18ct white gold using a shepherds hook style fitting with the centre stones being Swiss blue Topaz.
