One of my customers had a gem collection bequeathed to her by a late relative and I was asked to bring one of them to life in a style that reflected a time gone by.

The late relative was a fossicker and gem cutter and the stone chosen to be used from the collection was the green one shown to the right. We could have asked a gemologist to determine exactly what type of gem it was but to my customer that was of little importance. It was gifted to her by a dear relative, she loved the colour and that was all that mattered.

The ring was to have an antique look so millgrain edges and scroll work were utilised in the design. White gold was to be used for the setting of the ring to highlight the colour of the gemstone. 

The plan was to wear the ring almost every day. The main area of a ring that gets worn is the band and in the case of rings made solely from white gold this can result in the need for frequent re rhodium plating . To avoid this maintenance it was decide to make the band in yellow gold.

Next task for me was to digitally create the design and then edit it into a photo of my customers hand to ensure that it looked how she desired.

With the design phase completed the ring was created in 18ct yellow and white gold alloys. In total .13 carats of diamonds were used. As with many pieces of this style the side view is as much of interest as the top. From design to creation this ring took 22 days.
